Genuine Opposition Proclamation Rally

      At the Genuine Opposition proclamation rally, Aquilino Pimentel warned the youth of the dangers of the E.O. 464. According to Pimentel the executive order is meant to establish a system of secrecy in the executive branch to keep people in the dark as to what government is doing. Shenanigans in government can also be hidden from the public.

      Pimentel also assails Presidential Proclamation 1017 as a means for the president to place the country under martial law without directly declaring it. In PP 1017 GMA ordered the Armed Forces to compel the people to follow “decrees personally issued by her” even though no law authorizes the President of the Philippines to issue decrees. Only Marcos during martial law issued presidential decrees.

      Pimentel called on the citizenry, particularly the youth, to oppose martial law. Through the ballot in May 2007, "we can all make our voices heard that we will not tolerate any attempt to govern the country under martial law whether declared or not (de facto)."
